How it's calculated
eBay's final value fee is banded, not flat -- the rate on the first slice of the order total is higher than the rate on the amount above the threshold, the same shape as a progressive tax bracket:
order total = sale price + shipping charged
Final value fee, the per-order fee (a flat $0.30 or $0.40 depending on the order total), and any Promoted Listings percentage are added together, then subtracted from the order total for net proceeds.
Worked example
The calculator's own defaults: a $60.00 item in "Most categories" with $8.00 shipping charged, no Store subscription, no Promoted Listings.

What's the per-order fee?
Separate from the final value fee, eBay charges $0.30 per order on orders of $10 or less, and $0.40 on orders over $10. This calculator adds it automatically based on your order total.
Does a Store subscription lower my fees?
Yes, for two separate reasons: a Basic Store or above gets a real final value fee discount on most categories -- confirmed on eBay's own page for 8 of the 10 categories this calculator offers, and it's not just a lower rate, several categories (including "Most categories" itself) also get a lower dollar threshold for where the discounted first-tier rate stops applying -- and every Store level above Starter includes a monthly allowance of free listings that would otherwise carry an insertion fee. The discount amount is genuinely different category to category (see the table below), not one flat percentage-point shave. The Store's own monthly cost has to be worth it against your sales volume -- this calculator shows the fee-rate side, not the insertion-fee side.
How does the Promoted Listings ad rate work?
Promoted Listings Standard is an optional, seller-set percentage of the sale price, charged only when eBay attributes a sale to the ad -- eBay doesn't publish one fixed rate, sellers typically set it between 2% and 20% depending on their margin. Leave it at 0% in this calculator if you're not using it.
Is this eBay's complete fee schedule?
No -- this models the final value fee, the per-order fee, Store-level discounts and Promoted Listings, which cover the large majority of a typical seller's per-sale cost. It doesn't model insertion fees on non-free listings, international fee tables, or every one of eBay's smaller specialty categories.
